A shootout at the gates of the NSA headquarters in Maryland has left one dead and two others injured, according to a senior NSA official. On Monday morning, a car with two insider reportedly attempted to ram the guarded gates at the headquarters of the nation’s most secretive intelligence agency.
According to preliminary reports, a firefight ensued after the initially ramming that left one of the passengers inside the car dead. Sources have confirmed that the vehicle tried to ram through the gate, and that guards responded by firing upon the vehicle. Reports indicate that a weapon and cocaine were found in or near the vehicle.
At this point, officials are not indicating that this was an act of terrorism, though the incident appears to fit some of the criteria. The FBI is conducting an investigation into the event.
“We are investigating with NSA Police and other law enforcement agencies,” a spokesperson for FBI Baltimore says.
“Our Evidence Response Team is processing the crime scene, and FBI Agents are doing joint interviews with witnesses. We are working with the US Attorney’s Office in Maryland to determine if federal charges are warranted.”
